Radical Welcome Book large

Come join the conversation during our Easter Season Book Study of Stephanie Spellers’ book, Radical Welcome: Embracing God, The Other, and the Spirit of Transformation.  Stephanie is an Episcopal priest in Boston and member of the Standing Commission on Domestic

Mission and Evangelism.  She was also the keynote speaker

at the 2011 Diocesan Convention for our diocese.

In her book she explores what it means to be inviting,

inclusive and even radically welcoming in the ways that

church communities engage diversity among both those who attend a particular church and their surrounding

communities.  She says, “radical welcome is a fundamental spiritual practice, one that combines the universal Christian ministry of welcome and hospitality with a clear awareness

of power and patterns of inclusion and exclusion.” (p. 11)

Bishop Steven Charleston says this, “Radical welcome describes how communities stay hospitable, connected, centered, open to conversion and intentional.  What radical welcome offers are methods and practices that bring the gospel alive in communities that work for everyone, not just for the few.” (p. xi)

We will meet for a simple soup supper and lively discussion at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings: April 27; May 11, 18 and 25; and June 8 in the parish hall.  (Please note no class the first Wednesdays of May and June.)

We have several copies of the book available in the office, or you can order one at www.churchpublishing.orgAll are welcome!
