History

St. Joseph's History St. Joseph's Episcopal Church has a long history in the west Durham community dating back to 1900, when it was founded by Mr. William A. Erwin of Erwin Mills. While the mill is long gone, St. Joseph's is still deeply rooted in the community and seeks to serve those who come, "knocking on her door." While much has changed since its founding, St. Joseph's is still deeply committed to Sacramental worship, Teaching the Christian Faith, Serving those in need, and Gathering together as a Community of Disciples who make Disciples. We are unashamed of our commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ and lift Him up as the Way, the Truth, and the Life for all people. Our Worship is both very reverent and yet full of the Holy Spirit. The center of our week is the Sunday celebration of the Holy Eucharist. From that flows our life together and our impetus for our daily mission in the world, as we seek to live out our calling to, "proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ."
